Future Finders and Bridging The Gap (BTG) Update (7.10.22):
To kick the blog of this week, a huge thank you to all students and staff for their commitment and dedication this week… a wonderful all-round team effort, well done all.
Recently, we had the privilege to attend the ‘BEE INCLUSIVE’ conference at Old Trafford. The conference was hosted by Greater Manchester Combined Authority and in attendance were a wide range of educators, employers and experts to showcase best practice in careers and education.
It was an extremely inspiring and empowering day, having the opportunity to listen to young adults with SEND talk about the journey they are on to gain employment, businesses who are breaking down barriers to make applying for jobs inclusive and, last but not least, Andy Burnham (Mayor of Greater Manchester) and how he strives to change the culture and boost opportunity for anyone with SEND looking to gain employment.
We are proud to inform you that one of our Future Finders students, Grace, applied for and was successful gaining a place for a documentary filmmaking programme. She will start next week, where she will learn and gain new skills in relation to something she is passionate about! Well done Grace.
It has been an extremely productive and encouraging time for our students who have been attending placement and completing relevant external training. Our students have been working with staff to intensively boost understanding of various job roles (within our local area) and where to find what opportunities are available to them via ‘Indeed’. This has been a success as we have already had students apply for jobs and we are now currently awaiting feedback.
In addition, our BTG students have the opportunity to venture into the Town Centre and network with staff who are working within a variety of different roles and ask questions such as:
- What do you get from your job? Do you enjoy it?
- Why have you chosen to do this job?
- Who inspired you to work in this area?
- What do you find most difficult?
As always, the students continue to work hard in all areas of College life and continue to show dedication and professionalism in and out of College. As a staff team, we continue to be impressed by our students and their dedication.
I hope you have an amazing weekend!
