Future Finders and Bridging The Gap (BTG) Update (16.9.22)

What a brilliant week we have had here at the Future Finders Employability College and a huge welcome back to the weekly blog!

This week has flown by… but It has been a busy and productive start to the academic year for the Future Finders and BTG groups! The focus this week has been working with our students to support them towards being work ready around preparing for upcoming work placements across Oldham and The Royal Oldham Hospital. Let’s start with an update from our Future Finders Job Coaches:

“It’s been amazing to welcome our students back to college. We have had a couple of students already start placements and they are showing a fantastic attitude to learn not only at placement but also at college, receiving positive feedback throughout the week.”

We want to start by highlighting one of our new placement providers ‘The Toby Carvery’ and here is an overview from Mike who has supported two of our students this week.

‘’Peter and William have started a placement in Toby Carvery, Chadderton.  Peter has been working front of house, keeping the public area clean and tidy and helping serve customer.  Waitresses have been so impressed with his attitude and work rate that they have offered to split this week’s tips with him.  William has been working in the very busy kitchen, learning how to pot wash, prepared vegetables and use machinery and knives safely.”

Our amazing students at work…

Now over to you BTG…

‘’It’s amazing to have students back and we are looking forward to working together creating lots of opportunities and building towards improving and implementing core transferable skills.”

This week the students at BTG have had an introduction to the hospital and the staff alongside undertaking training delivered by the Northern Care Alliance staff. The students have completed a number of courses such as Basic life support, fire training and counter fraud. The students have shown enthusiasm and professionalism throughout their training and have really impressed the trainers with the amount of knowledge they have retained. The students will be continuing with their training in the coming weeks ready to start working with staff from the Royal Oldham Hospital. One of our BTG students wanted to add some of their own words as to how this week has been for them at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

“I have started the hospital this year, I have had a few visits and also completed some training. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I can tell that the hospital will be a great opportunity for me and it will open many doors in the future.”

As you can see, our brilliant students certainly got to grips with the training…

Well done to all the students this week! There will be plenty more to come over the next few weeks, we hope you have an amazing weekend.
