Future Finders Update – 27.05.2022
This week has definitely been jam-packed with numerous activities, events and challenges. Yet, irrespective of the mass, all of the Future Finders students and staff have continued to work extremely hard. We are more resilient from this week and we are stronger due to sheer commitment, dedication and focus. Together, Future Finders students and staff stride further and faster, and continue to look out for and support each other. Well done and thank you all.
This week, we started engaging in our celebrations for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee. Two students were overheard discussing the remarkable achievement of a special woman who has held a position for 70 years… nothing short of a marvel. A Future Finders College celebration would not be a festivity without Mrs Nelson’s treats that would make Mr Kipling exceedingly jealous!
On Thursday 26th May, the Future Finders team, in partnership with Lumenus students/staff and the Oldham Theatre Workshop, took part in a ‘Human Library Employment Event’ at Oldham Gallery. We will do a full report after the half-term. However, here is the visual minutes and some photographs from the event to give you a flavour…
This week’s ‘A Day In The Life Of’ comes from Grace Meadham. Over to you Grace…
“Every day I get up and get dressed before catching the bus on my own to college.”
Monday
“This week I went to Oldham Library on placement. I shelved books, tidied the shelves and helped customers. I read out loud in the afternoon to practice my English.”
Tuesday
“On Tuesday I travelled to Bury with one of my friends and my Job Coach to work in Age UK Charity Shop. We do lots of jobs, like sorting out the clothes, steaming them so they are clean and putting them out for sale in the shop.”
Wednesday
“I went to Age UK in Bury again. I learnt how to scan books to see if they are worth a lot of money.”
Thursday
“I went to Maths and English lessons in college in the morning and the employability in the afternoon.”
“After college I volunteered at an event in Oldham Library to help show employers in Oldham what our college students can offer them. There were speeches and films and it was fantastic. I spoke to employers and told them all about what I do at Future Finders”
As we now enter the final half-term holiday of the academic year, we wish all students and staff a wonderful and extremely well-earned break.
Please do have a good one, see you back on the 6th June… ready to ‘go again’!
