Future Finders have been busy as always, we never seem to stop. The work and effort the students put in is great.
Before I bring you up to date on all our latest news, last week I forgot to mention that 3 of our Future Finders were awarded ‘Worker of Week’. Here they are with their certificates, very well done all of you!
Employability Placements
Placements have continued and will continue next week but our last day out on placement will be Wednesday, all getting back to College in time for Christmas Dinner.
Maria has also been out again this week with Nathan and a student from Bridging the Gap, working at Oldham Foodbank. They are busier than ever and Nathan is trying his best to make sure the parcels are put together ready for distribution.
Future Finders got an extra day down at AVRO FC this week, with a new member of the team joining them to help out..
This week our students have been really industrious, working in all weathers. They have been busy painting, cleaning and maintaining the grounds at Vestacare Stadium.
We have completed some of our Open Awards coursework on ‘Health and Safety Awareness in a Working Environment’ on the job..
As you can see, the students are all aware of PPE and are working on Health and Safety Signs around the building. We also worked on our awareness of hazardous materials and Covid rules and regulations in the grounds.
All the students on placement this week have worked really well and shown they can work independently and be professional..
They have also enjoyed working as part of a team and having a laugh with the staff..
There was another treat in store for two of our students, Jamie and Jermaine, when they met a Champion British Professional Boxer – Anthony Crolla who owns the boxing gym. What a nice chap, really smiley and supportive towards our students. Jamie and Jermaine had their photo taken with him and were “buzzin” all day.
Congratulations and well done to everyone during this period of difficult times and thanks to the staff at Avro, everyone has had an amazing two weeks.
Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year ~ Di Needham
Employability
In this week’s lessons, we have looked at getting our portfolios up to date and making sure those last bits are finished off before the Christmas break.
The majority of students have accessed their iHasco accounts and completed their CPD training in Health & Safety, Fire Awareness, Customer Service and Manual Handling. This is amazing work and looks great to a potential employer on a CV.
English
This week Miss Asbury completed her lesson via Showbie. The lesson looked at reading materials, highlighting key phrases/words that they think are important to answering questions.
They also looked at the structure of the reading materials and using a dictionary to identify what key words meant.
The group also completed an activity of putting words in alphabetical order and reinforcing work around suffixes and plurals.
Maths
This session has been held virtually again and the students have been working on assessments to check the learning that has taken place over the last term.
Times tables are still a priority for our students to learn! Please follow the link and have a go.

We have started our Christmas festivities with today’s Christmas Jumper day.
Here are some reminders about our upcoming activities:
- Wednesday 16th December Christmas Dinner Day and PANTO day (oh yes, it is!!) Last year we attended a pantomime at Oldham Library, this year they are streaming their Pantomime, so we will be watching this after our Christmas Dinner (click here for details)
- Thursday 17th December Christmas Film and Party Day. The film is yet to be decided, there have been a lot of discussions about what is a good Christmas film and if some films are actually Christmas films – so, here goes, Die Hard and Gremlins – Christmas films or not? According to a recent survey, both of these are in the top 20 Christmas Film list! I’m not convinced about Gremlins!
- College closes on Friday 18th December, so Future Finders’ last day in College will be Thursday 17th December
This weekend, myself and my children will be getting into the festive spirit and putting up our Christmas tree and decorations – wish me luck!
Have a great weekend and we will see you on Monday 😊
