Firstly I would like to welcome all of our students and staff back following the Christmas break. It is great to be back and it is always an exciting time for students at the beginning of term as they settle in to new placements.
Here is an update from our Senior Job Coach, Anne-Marie…
It’s been a busy start to the year at Medtia for our Future Finders! Monday as always is our classroom day and this week it was new year, new start! We have all completed a mock exam in both English and Maths to see where we are up to and help prepare us ready for the real thing.
In Employability we have been looking at applying for jobs and completing application forms. Some of our young people took their CVs out to local companies in response to the jobs that they had advertised.
We also began to change all our displays in the classroom and have been busy gathering information on British Values and Hygiene..
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday continue to be our placement days. One of our many roles as Job Coaches is to continue to build our working relationships with our employers. Here is some feedback we have received this week:
- Carol (Manager) at The Childcare Village – “Afsana is doing great! It is lovely to see her back after the break.”
- Seb (Age UK) – “It’s nice to be back. He has been working hard on sorting through the clothes for us as we have had so many donations over Christmas.”
- Edward continues to do 3 placements a week and has been back at the Atrium Café, helping them with their stock takes, arranging the stock and updating the paperwork that the café has to complete.
- Some of our young people haven’t quite got back to working full time at their placements yet due to the needs of the employers but we will have plenty to report back on to you next week!
We will, of course, keep you up to date with the students as they begin their new placements and will be back with our ‘a day in the life’ feature from next week.
Have a restful weekend,
Daniel
