Another fabulous week here at Future Finders! Let’s start with an update from our job coach, Anne-Marie..
Another busy week at Medtia for our Future Finders! Monday as always is our classroom day, working on our Maths and English Functional Skills. We started the day off with Maths, looking at number placement and ordering and how we could use this within the workplace. In English we have looked formal and informal writing and when we might use these different types at work.
We are continuing to cover Health and Safety in the workplace in our Employability session, including the Health and Safety at Work Act and how it applies to both ourselves as employees and to employers. We have looked at what both of our responsibilities are which will keep everyone safe in the workplace.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday continue to be our placement days. One of our many roles as Job Coaches is to continue to build our working relationships with our employers. Here is some feedback we have received this week:
- “Afsana is doing great!” ~ Carol (Manager) at The Childcare Village
- “Tara is doing a great job, 10/10 this week!” ~ Lynsey (Head Housekeeper) Premier Inn
- “Brittany is doing a fantastic job! She is working well with the team and can complete many of the jobs we do here independently.” ~ Premier Inn
- “He has done really well this week. He has been doing a little work on the till to get used to more of our systems.” ~ Rhonda (Manager) Age UK (Hillstores)
Sebastian has also started a new placement this week at Stoneswood Care Home as a befriender, where he has taken part in the classes that they have running and helped out over lunch..
Edward has added to his work placement and begun working at the Atrium Café helping them with their stocktakes, arranging stock and updating the paperwork that the café has to complete. Due to his continued hard work and the high quality admin work he is producing, Edward has been awarded this week’s ‘Worker of the Week’ – well done Edward!
We have continued to build relationships with even more new employers and we are hoping to let you know more about this next week.
Alongside our work with Future Finders, all our Job Coaches also support young people from across New Bridge School, the Learning Centre and Hollinwood Academy to complete work experience. We take young people to a variety of different work experience placements…..here you can see some of our aspiring Café Assistants who help out on a Thursday afternoon at the Atrium Café completing the trolley run!
For this week’s ‘Day in the life’ we hear from Sufyaan who is working at the Premier Inn..
A day in the life of Sufyaan
Premier Inn, Oldham Central
My placement this term is at Premier Inn Central where I work Monday to Thursday 9:30am – 1:30pm with the housekeeping team.
The first job of the day is to make sure that all the communal areas are cleaned in the hotel as this is the first thing that the guests are going to see when they come in. I make sure that I dust and clean all the corridors and doors in the area of the hotel I get told to clean..

My next job is to go and help in the rooms. I have been learning the ‘Gold route’ in the rooms I have been cleaning. I make sure that I go in and all the surfaces are cleaned and hoovered and are looking presentable for when guests check in..

All in a day’s work!
Sufyaan has been doing really well on his placement and we can’t wait to see what the next few weeks bring for him!
Don’t forget that we are always looking for new employers who would be interested in finding out more about what our young people can offer their business. Our Employer Guide (click here to view it) has more details and we would be happy to talk through the different options – please get in touch!
Have a fantastic week,
