Our students are really enjoying being back on their placements after the half term break and are working hard. Our job coach Bethany has all the latest details for you..

This has been a busy week as usual! Monday is our college day and this week we covered lots of useful areas. We have looked at how we see and use Maths on a daily basis, from getting up in a morning, going to work/college, where we might see it and how we use it to help us. We did some work on number lines and found how we could use them across varying levels. In English we have looked at sentences and how we use written words and phrases to record and present information in the workplace. We have continued to learn about Health and Safety in our Employability session, identifying the procedures we would have to follow in certain scenarios, mainly the very important ones of accident and fire.

We also have updates from some of our placements. Gary is working with the Environmental Services on Fitton Hill in Oldham where he is excelling every day and meeting all the expectations set for him. Colin, Gary’s supervisor said,

Gary is fantastic and really taking to the job, learning every day and always willing to give any task a go.

Gary is working from Tuesday – Thursday and makes his own way to placement where he is able to maintain working relationships independently. The jobs that Gary carries out vary every day from general maintenance of outside residential areas to grounds maintenance using different types of industrial machinery.

Tara has had another good week at the Premier Inn where she has been helping Lynsey, the head housekeeper, to check all the rooms and make sure that they are all presentable ready for the new customers to check in. Lynsey has commented on how well Tara has been completing the room checks to the required professional standard.

Helal is currently working at Bargains 4 less in Oldham Town centre and has been really enjoying it, as you can see..

A day in the life of Helal
Bargains 4 Less Superstore

I work at Bargains 4 less in Oldham from Tuesday -Thursday

I start work at 9:30am and am dropped off at the store by my Job Coach..

On arrival I help stack the shelves and replenish the stock..

My next job is to remove any rubbish from the shop floor and place it in different areas to be recycled..

I also work upstairs in the shop where I build some of the stock to be placed on the shop floor..

I have to make sure I set my price gun to the correct price..

..before I stick the prices on the items ready to be taken to the shop floor..

When all the stock has been placed on the shop floor, I then support the rest of the staff to complete general cleaning tasks..

All in a day’s work!

Don’t forget that we are always looking for new employers who would be interested in finding out more about what our young people can offer their business. Our Employer Guide (click here to view it) has more details and we would be happy to talk through the different options – please get in touch!

Have a fantastic week,

Daniel
