Unfortunately Daniel has not been in this week (we hope he is feeling much better!) but our students have been hard at work as usual.
Britanny has settled in to her placement at the Whitegate Inn and we’re delighted to be able to tell you more about her work there..
A day in the life of Britanny
The Whitegate InnMy placement starts at 9.30am at the Whitegate Inn. I need to put my bag away upstairs, hang up my coat and wash my hands ready to start work. In the morning I help to get the bar area ready for the day ahead – my first job is to polish the clean cutlery..
My next jobs are to top up the sauce pots in the bar area..
..wipe all the tables..
..and wrap some cutlery..
Next I’m asked to clean all the menus and the highchairs. I need to use a chemical called D10 and a blue cloth. After I’ve finished the blue cloth needs to go in the bin as you can only use them for one job..
It’s nearly lunch time, 11.30am, but there are some clean glasses that need to be put away first!
I get half an hour for my lunch so it’s back to work at 12pm. I now help behind the bar, the first job is ‘bottling up’ which means restocking the bar area with drinks! Tony who I work with writes me a list of what I need to bring up so I take my list and get a green crate (or two, or three…) and look for what I need from the shelves..

When I have what I need, it’s time to take everything up to the bar area and restock the fridges..

Once everything is restocked, I help to bring in plates and glasses once customers have finished eating. I need to scrape the plates and load some pots into the pot wash..
Once this is done I notice that there are lots of Costa cups that need to be taken back into the bar area..
My placement finishes at about 2pm. I go over my targets with my job coach and it’s back to Medtia – another busy day done!
Colette has also been working very hard at the Atrium Cafe where she has earnt herself this week’s ‘Worker of the Week’ Award..
Well done, Colette!
We’ll be back next week with lots of news from our students on their placements.
Have a good week!
