Well, as always we have had a busy week here at Medtia Square with a real focus on what is coming next for our students. Many of our young people are visiting colleges, writing CVs, applying for jobs and attending annual reviews – it is amazing how quickly the year is flying by! Some of the destinations for our young people are very exciting and we will continue to support all of our students with their transition over the next few months.

We have quite a few updates for you this week, firstly from Tia who has been working over in Greenfield at Tesco. Tia has been having till training this week and she is doing really well. Tia has been working really hard and her customer service is excellent – as you can see..

Chris, one of our pre interns, is also settling in well on his new placement at The RSPCA in Strinesdale. He has done very well during his first week, carrying out different duties such as spending quality time with the cats in the cattery pens..

Chris has learnt about the paperwork that needs to be completed for the animals..

..and he has recorded all the details in his weekly diary, reflecting on his work and what he has done well..

This week’s ‘Worker of the Week’ goes to Jessica! Jess is on our Future Finders Pathway and is currently based on placement at The Atrium. Jess has really pushed herself this week to try new things and to go out of her comfort zone – well done, Jess! To give you an idea of what she is up to, I will hand you over to Jess..

A week in the life of Jess

Café Assistant – The Atrium

I have been working at The Atrium Café at First Choice Homes Oldham all week. I arrive around 9:30am every day, hang up my coat and wash my hands ready for my first job – helping with the food preparation ready for lunch service..

I have done this every day this week – that’s a lot of food!

When all the food is prepared I give the dining area one last sweep ready for lunch service to start and a busy day of serving customers..

One of my jobs this week has also been to label the trays ready for the meals that are delivered to Medtia..

As I have grown in confidence throughout the week, another one of my jobs has been helping out on the till during the lunch service, taking orders and serving customers..

Once lunch service is over I help with the washing up, cleaning all the cutlery and pre washing the plates ready for the dishwasher..

Finally, the last job is to throw the rubbish away at the end of each day..

All in a week’s work!!

Just a reminder that on Monday evening we have a meeting at 5pm for parents of students going on the Salou trip. We look forward to seeing you all there, please bring along your child’s passport and any prescribed medication that they will need on the trip.

We have also sent out invitations this week to our Parents’ Evening which will take place on 16th May. We look forward to seeing you there! Please do get the reply slips back to us so that we know who to expect.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Daniel
